Sherm and Wanda Olsrud Scholarships

Sherm and Wanda have always believed in the value of higher education and rewarding hard work. With this in mind they have established scholarship funds to help deserving students in the Southern Oregon area.



The Sherm and Wanda Olsrud Scholarship Fund


This is a $5,000.00 renewable scholarship fund and is administered by the Oregon Community Foundation who partners with the Oregon Student Access and Completion for the student application process.


The requirements are:

  • Graduating seniors (including GED recipients and home-schooled seniors) of high schools in Douglas, Jackson, Josephine, or Klamath County
  • GPA: High school seniors, 3.00 - 3.75; college students, 3.00+
  • Colleges: Public and nonprofit only
  • Enrollment: Full-time enrollment required
  • FAFSA: Required - based on financial need
  • Prior recipients may apply-compete annually


To apply, go to www.OregonStudentAid.gov and fill out the application. To view this scholarship, click on scholarships.
Then select OSAC Scholarships Catalog and scroll down to Olsrud. The Scholarship code for this fund is 378.


Deadlines


November 1st - Applications become available online at www.oregonstudentaid.gov .

February 15th - 5pm PST: Early Bird Deadline. Error-free applications will be entered into a drawing for one of several $1,000 Early Bird scholarships.

March 1st - 5pm PST: Final Deadline for all materials to be submitted.

Awards are usually made in July for the upcoming academic year.



The Olsrud 4H and FFA Scholarship Fund


This is a $5,000.00 renewable scholarship fund and is administered by the Oregon Community Foundation who partners with the Office of Student Access and Completion for the student application process.


The requirements are:

  • Graduating seniors (including GED recipients and home-schooled seniors) of high schools in Douglas, Jackson, Josephine, or Klamath County
  • GPA: 2.50+
  • Activities: Evidence in Activities Chart of two+ years of participation in 4-H or FFA programs during high school
  • Colleges: Public and nonprofit only
  • Enrollment: Full-time enrollment required
  • FAFSA: Required - based on financial need
  • Prior recipients may apply-compete annually

  • Essay: Explain why you are seeking this scholarship. Length: 1 page

Then select OSAC Scholarships Catalog and scroll down to Olsrud. The Scholarship code for this fund is 505.

The Sherm and Wanda Olsrud Endowed Scholarship


Awards up to $5,000.00 to provide financial aid to students in need so that they might pursue their higher education goals at Southern Oregon University.


Qualifications

  • Financial need will be the primary consideration.
  • Community involvement will be of secondary consideration.
  • Academic achievement will be the third selection criterion.
  • Must be accepted to the University, and if a current student, be in good academic standing.
  • A current recipient will be given preference over a new one.
  • The recipient(s) must be a full-time student at SOU and remain so during the period covered by the scholarship.


How to Apply

  • Complete the Southern Online Scholarship Application (SOSA). Details available at www.sou.edu.
  • File a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
  • Attach an unofficial transcript of previous academic work.
  • Provide letters of recommendation per instructions on the web site.


Deadline

The application dead-line is March 15th for the school year following March 15th.
